Yoga has always been a part of my life. I recall as a child, feeling deeply connected to nature, spirituality and energy. As an adult it has become a way of life to maintain that union. On a quest for meaning and purpose I began yoga and meditation as a teenager. Over time my interests have evolved to include aromatherapy, herbalism, Ayurveda, Thai Massage and energy through Reiki & crystals. I considers myself to be a humble student of life and it is my dharma to share these interests with others so they too can attain balance and purpose in life.

In 2010, while working in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan, I completed my 200-hr yoga teacher training. Deeply drawn to my personal practice I found my true calling as a yoga guide. It was during this time I began to explore Reiki and have since received a Master Level Attunement. In November 2017 I was ready to pursue my 500hr RYT, expected graduation June 2020. As my interests as a practitioner evolve, I have discovered the next step on my personal journey. In the fall of 2020, I will begin a program in Naturopathic Medicine.

I teach from experience, my personal practice, and from my heart. A part of my message to students it to be their own guru. My goal as a guide is to help my students honor their own personal truth, enabling them to live consciously, in touch with their hearts, and finding a practice that suits them.

I am grateful for this opportunity to share yoga and to empower my students to be their own best teacher. I am even more thankful for yoga, which has been invaluable both physically and mentally throughout my life including the beautiful journey of pregnancy, labor, and as a mother to 2 incredible boys. I have immense gratitude for those who believe in my vision and Yoga Shala’s mission, as a venue to share the light and healing benefits of yoga.

I was drawn to practice yoga as an opportunity for physical activity. I didn't take long to realize that the connection I found on my mat was one with a deeper sense of self. I came to appreciate all that the body is capable of and the meditative qualities of the asana practice. Seizing the chance to deepen my practice I enrolled in the teacher training program at Yoga Shala. It was then that I fell in love with teaching, using my voice, and holding space for others. I enjoy enriching my teaching practice with an emphasis on Restorative, Reiki, and self care, but also love the dynamic and creative aspects of vinyasa. As a forever student of yoga, I approach my practice with a child-like curiosity. I am always looking for opportunities to build on my experience and knowledge.

I dabbled in yoga through my college years, but really strengthened my practice when I held my first corporate job. Through yoga, I began to learn how to let go of stress and negativity that came with this experience. I decided to take the plunge and completed a 200 hour teacher training program in 2015 as a way to deepen my personal practice. I found a love for teaching others about the uplifting benefits of yoga. In 2019, I completed a life coaching course earned a certification as a Whole Life Healing Coach. I incorporate aspects of healing coaching modalities into my classes to support my students in feeling rejuvenated, refreshed, and connected to the world around them.

Why hello there! My journey of practice began as a self prescribed remedy to combat declining mental health and chronic pain in 2013. From that, I quickly discovered where I belong, not where I fit in. In the same way that a bird with one wing can’t fly, a practice of only physical postures can’t lift your spirit. It’s because of this principle that my classes are bursting with philosophical insight. Meet me on your mat, I’ll teach you the “why” behind your practice and how to fly with both wings.

I discovered yoga as a teenager and througout the years have found that Yoga supports me physically and emotionally. While working a stressful nursing job and dealing multiple health issues, I found myself fading. It was then I decided to leaving nursing to focus on myself and my famil. I began to deepen my practice finding more peace and calm, patience and presence, acceptance and release. Living from my practice by incorporating yogic principles into my personal life I am guided to share this practice with my students.

My yoga journey began in my elementary school years with Jane Fonda on PBS before I left for school. Throughout high school, my love for yoga grew, and I began to teach informally in college for our fitness club. I knew one day I wanted to become a yoga teacher, but the question was when and where. After moving to Dearborn, I came across Yoga Shala. After meeting the teachers and community, I knew this was where I was meant to take teacher training.

I beleive that spreading the beauty of yoga can better the community and brighten lives. Originally brought to yoga for physical fitness, my practice fully blossomed after finding a home in Yoga Shala. Through yoga I have found fitness, healing, and community. I took my 200hr YT through Yoga Shala with Jamie Garrison in 2017.It is an honor to share this practice and be a part of your journey.

A native of Erie, Pennsylvania, I began her yoga journey while a student at Penn State Behrend in 2006. Moving to Michigan in 2012 opened up a new world of yoga studios instead of gym yoga with a refocus of my practice on inner work to manage anxiety and stress. After practicing in several studios through the Metro Detroit area, I have found a home at Yoga Shala. I thrive in the energy of the space and completed the Fall 2017 teacher training with Jamie Garrison. Drawn to other forms of relaxation, I continue to study Reiki, Thai bodywork and crystal healing through workshops and training programs. I will begin a 300 hour study of Yoga Therapy in February 2020. I have a relaxed approach on yoga with a focus on self care and acceptance. I often incorporate Thai bodywork and Reiki into my classes for an extra level of relaxation.

I started the spiritual-yogic path after a traumatic experience that left me questioning many things about life. I took my first yoga class at my local gym and I found that it fit well with what I was looking for. Years later I wanted a more thorough mind-body practice and when I walked into Yoga Shala, I begun attending classes regularly. The Yoga Teacher training helped me to refine me on many body-mind-spirit practices I have explored over the years. I know there is no end to this path and i'm excited about the many branches Yoga offers us humans. I am a husband, father, fur dad, and friend. My interests include many outdoor activities martial arts, and I enjoy many forms of yoga, meditation, and philosophy. I feel honored to serve as a yoga guide for others to explore their deepest potentials.

I have been practicing yoga for over six years and completed my 200-hr yoga teacher training at Yoga Shala in the Summer of 2019. I began practicing yoga as a way to relieve stress and increase physical activity but soon found yoga to be much more than just a physical practice. Yoga helped me develop a new and appreciative relationship with my body and mind. Consequently, I am an advocate of yoga for all and aims to help students develop a positive and loving relationship to their bodies and minds. When not teaching yoga, I am finishing my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology where I study the impact of mindfulness and acceptance on mental and physical health.

Yoga is the light that was missing from my life 10 years ago. As a college athlete, I was constantly grinding. I discovered yoga and it became a spiritual release for my body and mind. Since then, yoga has helped me to heal, learn, and grow in all aspects of my life. Now, as an Elementary School Counselor, I continue to practice to keep myself sane! Yoga is my self-care and brings me the peace and quiet I crave after spending the day with tiny humans.

I believe yoga is for everyone, and I strive as a teacher to make each class feel that way for all. My classes are accessible, playful, and full of good energy. You can expect to be met exactly where you are when you arrive and you always have permission to do what feels best for you.

Shala means home and that is what Yoga Shala means to me. Here is where I completed my 200 hr RYT and where I continue to practice and learn, rooting deep in my community. My love for yoga sparked early in my childhood. One of my greatest memories was practicing yoga from VHS tapes alongside my mother. The comforting tranquility I had during these practices is what I bring to my classes. Grounding my students we slowly flow consciously through and end in serenity. I find comfort when my students leave class with clarity and feeling restful.

I am a metro Detroit-based yoga instructor who believes in fostering a practice of inclusivity and focusing on connection through community. My formal education is in Clinical Behavioral Psychology and I seek to bridge the physical practice of yoga with mindfulness through awareness and acceptance. I hope to inspire others to find gratitude for themselves, both on and away from the mat. When not on the mat… I’m exploring and growing through my love of fitness. That, or grabbing coffee at a local business and planning my next outdoor adventure.

I discovered yoga thanks to my wife, Amy. I didn't have any real expectations for the first class, which was at the Yoga Shala, but it felt really good. After taking a second and a third class, I was hooked. Yoga became a way to get out of my own head, and provided a huge physical benefit.Eager to take my practice further, I signed up for teacher training at Yoga Shala. More than just expanding my practice, teacher training allowed me to learn more about who I am. I learned that part of success is helping others be successful, and that I could do that through yoga. In an increasingly busy and distracting world, yoga can help us take time to reconnect with ourselves. I like to bring that grounding, centering energy to my classes and a focus on fundamentals, whether it's Hatha or Vinyasa.

My first yoga class was held in a bookstore after closing and among racks of books was the beginning of my yoga journey. My eyes were opened to the idea of an active mind/body/spirit relationship. Yoga and meditation became critical instruments in dealing with anxiety and navigating through life. It was the discovery of yoga as a tool for my own life that led me to completing my 200RYT and training's in Thai Massage, Yin Yoga, and Reiki (Master). In 2020, I will be working towards my certification in Yoga Therapy. I constantly experiment and am on the lookout for what will help my brain, nourish my soul, and how I can best present these tools to assist others. Equal parts glitter and mindfulness, together we find that variations and props are our friends. Yoga is for everyBODY and I'm grateful we get to explore together.

I have been practicing yoga for over six years now! While I love my dedicated home yoga practice, I found it was time to branch out and learn more about the yoga practice. After practicing with Jamie for years at community events, I completed my 200 hour teacher training at Yoga Shala early 2019. I believe that yoga is for everybody! I look forward to building strength, flexibility, and unity with all practitioners she may guide!
